Welcome Message

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We warmly invite you to be part of the 2nd Singapore International Public Health Conference and 11th Public Health and Occupational Medicine Conference (SIPHC 2016).

The theme of the conference is “Contemporary Challenges, Sustainable Solutions”. SIPHC 2016 addresses three current public health challenges prevalent in Asia, namely (1) emerging infections, including antimicrobial resistance; (2) the intricacies of health systems and the implications on healthcare costs as a result of population ageing; and (3) the complexities of inequality and vulnerability of migrant and refugee populations, and their implications on public health.

The world is becoming increasingly vulnerable to public health challenges and risks. The rising prevalence of chronic diseases, against the backdrop of rapidly aging populations, while the confluence of emerging and endemic infectious diseases poses an even greater challenge a midst the rising problem of drug resistance. Asia sits at the epicenter for many of these profound challenges with cross-border migration of vulnerable and refugee populations intensifying both the nature and the burden of such new, complex public health challenges.

Compounded by the unfinished agenda of existing public health concerns, there is an urgent demand for sustainable solutions in public health responses, policies and services for Asia as well as the rest of the world.

Jointly hosted by the College of Public Health and Occupational Physicians of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, and NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, SIPHC 2016 helps provide the unique platform to unite academia, scientists, key opinion leaders and experts from research institutions, industry, regulatory agencies, policy makers, government agencies, businesses and NGOs to discuss and showcase the latest research developments and policy case studies.

We hope that you will be part of this exciting event which will contribute to health and well being of Asia.

We look forward to welcoming you in Singapore.
